Artist Carol Ladewig

As part of my studio-assistantship for Oakland-based painter Carol Ladewig, I helped her create the book Painting Time about her latest body of work.
The book is both an exhibit catalog for Ladewig’s solo show Year in Color / Lunar Cycles at SLATE contemporary, as well as wider examination of the work within the context of Ladewig’s own art practice and modern art history. The text features essays by art critic DeWitt Cheng, SLATE director Danielle Fox, and Ladewig.
In collaboration with Ladewig, I drafted the book’s organization and executed the design. I photographed a large body of work from Ladewig’s graduate school years, which is an important chapter in Ladewig’s art practice, and also took the studio shots that appear throughout the book. With Berkeley’s Edition One Press, we saw it through the proofs and final publication.
